Well in the book Forgotten by Cat Patrick, London Lane has this exact problem. Every day is literally a new day to her. London keeps a diary of each day just so she doesn’t wear the same clothes again. This books is a page turner! I would recommend it to anyone that likes a girly book but also likes a book that doesn’t get boring. This book is by far the best book I have ever read so far!

I'm reading 'Different people' by Orland Outland. It was a finalist in the Lambda Literary Award for gay romance back in 2008. I read quite a bit of gay and lesbian romance and this is good. There's a real plot, characters with depth, interesting sub plots such as American politics. If you are looking for something a bit different, this is worth a try.

On scary thing, for a librarian anyway; both characters are heavy readers and they talk about books I have never heard of. Might have to track some of them down and see what I have been missing! C

The truth about Celia Frost is one of the most outgoing books anyone will read! It is a must to read this book. It is about a girl who has lived a life full of lies all because of her so called Mum. Once she discovers the truth the mysterious adventure starts.

In the first few chapters this books is a little slow and doesn’t start to get really good until half way through.
I would recommend this book to anyone, teenager or adult, if they enjoy books that just keep getting better and better the more you read.

The Iron Druid Chronicles

First you get Hounded, then Hexed and finally Hammered! The Iron Druid Chronicles are an Urban Fantasy delighted. Kevin Hearne who by his own admission is a comic book nerd has turned his love of super hero dudes into a witty, tongue in cheek, laugh out loud trilogy. The main character Atticus O’Sullivan is a 2,000 year old sexy druid who has managed to blend in with modern society…to a point. Life becomes more than tricky when an ancient God decides he wants custody of Atticus’s powerful sword called Answerer. A sword Atticus didn’t exactly come by honestly. Add to that a suspicious antagonistic neighbour, an elderly good Irish Catholic lady down the street, various demons and life starts to get complicated. If that wasn’t enough a few Goddesses enter the picture wanting more than just a coffee and chat – that might be ok except if they don’t get what they want from Atticus he might become a pile of rubble. Add in a coven of witches he doesn’t quite trust, a lawyer who is a vampire requiring blood as payment and things go from bad to worse and back again.

So far, this doesn't sound like anything special, does it? The key differences between these books and most of the others in this genre is that it is extremely well-written, there is a sense of humour and fun in this book. The plot has some nice twists and turns, and seemingly impossible things are given logical explanations so the reader doesn't get hung up on implausibility.

The books also have one of the best dog characters that I've every read - Oberon, Atticus' pet Irish Wolfhound. He and Atticus are able to communicate mentally and their conversations are hilarious: "I knew I should have never let you watch the Wizard of Oz."

Once you read the first one, a thirst develops for the next two!

Today North Korea has announced the death of their 'dear leader' Kim Jong Il. He took power in 1992 following the death of his father, making North Korea the only state with a hereditary Communist leader. North Korea has long been a source of tension in the West, with then-President George W Bush naming them as one of the "axis of evil".

What a delight it is to discover a new author who writes honestly and truthfully about family relationships. This is a story of a father (divorced) and his son Jake discovering themselves and learning about family. Sammy Sullivan gets a call from his son’s school to come to the Principals office – a call that strikes fear in many a parent’s heart. When he asks for time off his boss fires him! At the school he learns that the son has written a “subversive “essay and won’t apologize so the principal expels him.

From this moment the reader begins to sense that the son has a plan but the father is unaware of it. Their journey over the next few days is enlightening when at Jakes prompting Sammy takes him back to his old neighborhood and has to face the demons he left behind years ago. We realise that it is Jake who forcing his father to grow up and make a life. I did not want to put this book down. It is a refreshing yarn and I look forward to reading more from Charlie Carillo.

When the news broke that Princess Di had died in a car crash halfway round the world, I was doing the ironing in the spare bedroom of our beach house. I can picture the moment, When I heard about the Pike River Mine I was ... I'm not sure; which is weird. Here was a tragedy unfolding right in my own country. It should have been memorable but it's not. And I know why.

Diana's death was an absolute. But the miners? No - not for me anyway. I mean, this is New Zealand. We're a tough bunch. Our emergency services are amazing. I think of our companies as hardworking, safety conscious. Surely they'd be fine? Yes, some might be badly injured, but all dead? No way. So the reason I don't remember what I was doing is that the announcement didn't have the emotional impact needed to burn into my memory.

Now though? Now is different. 29 men lost. Families mourning loved ones as Christmas hearts. A cute wee girl who will never meet her dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, family member or friend. May whatever faith you have, whatever God or gods you believe in, bring you some measure of comfort.

Although I haven’t read the whole book, from what I have read this seems to be fairly ‘warts and all’ with each admitting faults, jealousies, but also happiness and love. All up, it’s an interesting glimpse into a different way of life.

Spell Bound continues from where ‘Waking the Witch’ left off with Savannah Levine in danger and without her powers, now she has no idea how to restore her powers and she desperately needs them. Witch-hunting assassins, necromancers, half-demons, and rogue witches all seem to be after her. The threat is not just for Savannah; every member of the Otherworld might be at risk. While most of her fellow supernaturals are circling the wagons at a gathering of the council in Miami, Savannah is caught on the road, isolated from those who can protect her and unable to use her vast spell-casting talent, the thing she counts on most.

Spell Bound appears to act as a bridge towards the next book in the series, while less enjoyable then ‘Bitten’ it does leave you waiting for the next book.

Irene picked this book for us all to read and as she is a great admirer of Nora Roberts, I wasn’t too surprised to find it quite a similar book. I found it an enjoyable, easy read. It is a romantic thriller with quite a good sense of place, although I did find some of the references to wine a bit “clunky”.

Joan thought it was a good story, but not particularly well written, Hilary found it gripping and not too violent and Jenny agreed with me, that it was a light enjoyable novel. She prefers them a little darker!

Another teen novel worth reading. I've decided I quite like historical fiction & this has a little bit of magic thrown in. Camille is a 17 year old living in 1855 San Francisco. She sets sail on a perilous quest to Australia with her dad to discover a deadly secret from her mum (who she has believed was dead)

Again romance, lies, intrique, action - set against the backdrop of convict Australia.

If you enjoyed The Hunger Games then you'll love this teen fiction book. I read it over a weekend and couldn't put it down. Another dystopian novel - about a society in a repressed and controlled state.

The main character 'Tris' is a 16 year old who bucks the order of things looking for a better life. It's got it all romance, friendship, action, lies, secrets - and a society on the brink of war. Rating for me 5/5
